Introduced in 2012, the Buick Encore came at a time when the auto market was in search for sleek and more fuel-efficient crossovers. It became a huge hit for General Motors in the few years it has been on the market but with small crossover market now booming, it looks set for major redesign and engine performance changes. Modest visual redesigns occur on the rear and front fascia. Well, major redesign changes should also be expected in the 2017 Buick Encore especially with its stronger, bigger and better engine performance. It is expected to shake up the crossover market with improved performance, greater aggressiveness and more advanced technology. With such changes, GM have definitely had its hands full in the premium sub-compact crossover segment even as more rivals come along, such as the rumoured Honda HR-V.
2017 Buick Encore – Fresh New Look
Normally, heavy cladding on front fascia suggests major redesign, but compared to the current model, the Buick Encore prototype may not have extreme exterior redesign changes. Most notably, the 2017 Buick Encore sheds off most of its black plastic with the pocket-sized luxury crossover having more body-coloured surfaces. The other redesign changes include new bumpers, redesigned headlights, a new grille and a shorter front fascia. The cladding in the hood is probably the best hint that the Buick Encore will get powertrain changes, and the prototype is likely being used to test cooling and airflow to the new engine. This might also explain why there’re no changes on the rear end of the Encore, although there’ll almost surely be changes made to the rear taillights as well.
Like the exterior, the interior will probably get changes, too. Spy shots haven’t shown any of its interior, but as with most GM mid-cycle updates, there are great chances for a reworked instrument panel. This will very likely focus on the design and technology of the centre stack and gauges, and the latest GM infotainment technology may be included. High trim levels will feature piano black trims on the centre consoles, door panels and on the dashboard. It will feature a new touch screen which should be more suitable for the current infotainment system and a highly comfortable four-zone air conditioning system. Other high-tech settings and accessories include USB and Bluetooth connectivity as well as satellite navigation.
2017 Buick Encore – Whole Power Unit
Although the 2017 Buick Encore is available only with the 1.4-liters turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, the Vauxhall/Opel Mokka. This will likely change with the updated design, with a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine rumoured to join the engine lineup. The 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4, where it’s rated at 153 hp and 177 pound feet of torque. If used in the Buick Encore, this may be less power than the current engine’s 138 hp and 148 pound feet of torque, but it can improve fuel economy over the current rating of 33 mpg highway and 25 mg city.
The security features of this brand-new Buick Encore shall consist of rear view mirror, parking sensors, airbags, safety belt as well as alarms.
2017 Buick Encore – Price and Release Date
The price of the updated Buick Encore should not change very much from the current model that is priced at $25,000. There’s a chance that the new engine will be added as an extra option rather than as a replacement, adding another pricing level in the Encore line-up. The American 2017 Buick Encore is expected to be unveiled during the New York auto show that will be held this year.
