The 2017 Opel Insignia is the second generation of Opel’s Insignia model. The car has received a significant upgrade technically. In fact the design changes out it in the same league with the Merc Commodore. Some of the features in the car have already been fitted in the new Opel Astra. The Insignia, ramped up the design part. The car is low and weighs less because of the modular platform E2XX that General Motors used to create the body. It is defined as family hatchback but some people find it hard to think of it as a hatchback because of the rear design and the ample rear space that is commonly lacking in most hatchback.
2017 Opel Insignia – Exterior and Interior Design
This new generation of the Opel Insignia looks more modern than any Opel Sedan on the market. The 2017 Opel Insignia has a longer wheelbase. The front has a large chrome plated grill with the logo stylishly displayed on the top. It comes with LED lights in the front and at the back. The front and rear bumpers have been freshened up but there are no major sheet metal changes. The exterior seems to have been inspired by the Monza concept featuring a tapered, semi-floating roofline with low door scallops and a sleek shoulder line. The interior of the car has plush upholstery and finishes. Some would say the manufacturer when a little over board with making the interior, especially the dashboard more interesting because of the 18 LED projectors making up the dashboard and a console that has all the features you would find on a more expensive brand like the Mercedes-Benz. The upgrades should please most Opel lovers. Inclusions of touch screen consoles, Wi-Fi connectivity and features like collision warning systems should appeal to the modern driver.
2017 Opel Insignia – Engine and Performance
The 2017 Opel Insignia is available in two engine varieties. The base model comes with a 1.6-liter engine that produces 149 hp and 130 lb-ft torque. The second option is a 2.0 liter engine with 230 hp and a torque of 190 lb-ft. the engines are mated with an advanced 7-speed automatic gearbox. The car looks imposing on its 18-inch wheels but has an impressive fuel efficiency of 24 mpg which is said to be 3% better than previous incarnation and most of Opel’s six-speed versions. When it comes to speed the car can go from o to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds and has a top speed of 142 mph.
The Opel Insignia’s suspension has been improved, it’s handling improved for better rolling control. The 60 percent of the chassis design is also new with components like springs dampers and more. At high speeds the low spring rates give the car a low-frequency, gentle ride. The low-speed ride however, can feel a bit noisy. With that said, the car still manages to steer better than its predecessors.
The Opel Insignia is in a market dominated by cars that have lower running costs and are easy to repair. In this regard, it is highly competitive.
